about

The 13 tracks on Wheel It Studios Vol 4: So Blessed, are selected compositions created during Cycle 4 of the NTM Wheel It Studios program, held between December 2021 to May 2022 featuring artists primarily from Jane-Finch, Toronto. Production took place after the program was held.

The album’s single So Blessed, features 12 artists celebrating life and the lives of those who recently passed while expressing the obstacles faced during the last two years but how they managed to overcome those struggles with persistence and gratitude.

The song’s music video features: Rez Made, Tracey Kayy, Esco, S!sha, Tdot Wav, Aléja, NoFilter, Txnic, Baya Baby, Chocolate Coco Baby, POTD and Beny Esguerra. Other songs express issues related to community healing, self-love, relationships, joy, spirituality, mental health, loss of life due to street politics/systemic violence and more.

This year we also invited youth from another community program called Concrete Warriors–a Hiphop leadership and mentorship program which engages youth in critical thinking, using Hiphop education as a culturally relevant lens to understanding complex social issues. With support from community leader and established b-boy/deejay J-Rebel, many youth from Concrete Warriors participated this year furthering our ties and partnerships with similar community arts programs.

Our goal to create a full-length original album and video featuring collaborations between artists from across different neighbourhoods, mentors and partners was successfully achieved through this project which we plan to repeat every year following up with VOL 5 in 2023. It is an initiative that continues to build a culture of peace as its lessons on cross-cultural/cross-neighbourhood understanding and collaboration will have long term empowering impacts on our community. Album proceeds will go towards the continued operation, sustainability and longevity of the program.
